As ever, it took a glance at the Glendale Aurora App to realise there might be something going on in the early evening sky around us so, I nipped out, set up a camera and took a few test shots. Sure enough there was a pale Aurora coming in from the NE.
A pale green streak started over to the NNE and spread across the sky pretty quickly. As ever, this only looks like a paler streak of sky to the naked eye.
It was only working through the many shots the camera took that I saw this object streaking through the Aurora towards North, Hmmmmmm. Bear in mind each shot lasts ten seconds, this thing was moving!
It was only later that evening when I checked the camera before going to bed that I saw just how bright it had been.
I did stand outside for a while checking the shots but it was COLD, my hands were freezing, hence I check the shots are on.
I then turn the hundreds of shots into a time-lapse video, in this case I adjusted the camera so I've ended up with three clips, two have been kept together.
The first clip is quite short but it starts at 5:25 in the evening. Both can be watched on this page or on my YouTube channel.
This second clip is actually two clips added as one video, you'll see a change in the screen briefly but it shows just how bright the Aurora got.
