January has been so mixed weather wise this year, lots of cloud, high winds and snow / rain but, in between, there has e been glimpses of lovely skies both night and day.
On the first morning of the first month of the year, I was up for the sunrise and got these shots, facing in opposite directions

Looking North West

Looking South East

A fine start to the year.
We had a few clear nights as well this month, I love getting outside and just staring, amazed by the big sky here. And who would have thunk it? We got an Aurora on the first night of the year!

January 1st - 1st Aurora of 2024

There was a beautiful clear night on the 7th.

Shooter heading for the Knock

On these clear nights I see all sorts of stuff moving around and now and again, something I don't know. Most of the time it's satellites but ......
The back of the house is the big night sky views, Dundee is to the South so there's more light pollution out the front.

January 8th - The Moon & Venus rising

January 10th - Underlit clouds and faint Aurora

Crowley's Headlights?

On the morning of the 12th January these shadows were being caused by something between us and the rising sun, anti-crepuscular rays?
The same morning, a very cold one, really funky clouds started to form and catch the light.

Funky clouds in the sunrise

I've been on the lookout for nacreous clouds ever since the December events.

Over there

Our kitchen windows face South ish so, since I'm the breakfast maker, I get to see if there's anything going on towards the sunrise, when we can actually see through clouds or rain :)

Impressions of sunrise

I don't normally mess around with my photos like this but for some reason I liked the effect.

And this tree, I just liked the silhouette of it against the sunrise sky

It's in the trees!

Later that same evening ...

Moonlit clouds

You can't see it in the evening shot above but there's a light fall of snow on the ground

January 15th - Lights in the hills

January 16th - Big sky view

January 16th - Dundee light

I mentioned Anti-crepuscular rays a while back, crepuscular rays are more frequent, I think.
These were so subtle, difficult to see but they were there!
The moon can be seen so clearly up here too.

January 24th - Pale Aurora in cloud

All these videos are actually time lapse photographs stitched into a video format in Photoshop, I usually go through each shot having a quick look for those more unusual objects

Jet trail maybe?

Evening sky 180

When there's a sunset, there are beauties.
Quite often we don't even see pale Aurora, it's only when I look at the photographs that it comes out.

January 28th - Pale Aurora

January 28th - Pale Aurora

January 28th - Someone left their lights on?

There are roads all around out the back there so we often see vehicle headlights, sometimes people walking with torches, hmmmmmm, but, have a look up in the top left of this next shot.

January 31st - Intergalactic headlights?

Those lights are a high right?
